Who ate my Words?

"I will let the S10 pass for now. I think Nokia 9 will be good bang for bucks if I plan to buy something in future." I texted my colleague the above line while we were discussing about how expensive phones have become. One phrase I used here is "bang for bucks".   It means the right and optimal purchase for my need. In specific, I will be excited about what I am buying, it fits into my budget and I won't regret it.   It is not what is best out there. It is what is best for me in what I can afford. 

Do we address animals as objects (it) or by their gender just like we do to humans (he, she)? I see cases of both widely used. This is what I can make out. If the animal is known, we are in best position to refer the animal as a he or a she, based on the gender.  My sister has two pugs, the boy is called Coco and the girl is called Cola. We refer to the dogs as per their gender. Now if we have a case of an unrelated animal, use of "it" is best suited.   The dog was barking all night, it was probably sacred of the fire crackers.

Cover for; cover up; cover I want to bunk classes today, man can you cover for me? The requestor wants his friend to pitch in for him by staying in class and taking the needful notes.   I covered up his absence while he was out of office on personal work.   It could also mean that you fake someone's presence or hide some details by lying. Yeh not cool but could be a necessity sometimes.   Guys, cover me I am crossing the field.   In action situation either in real-life or games, team members cover each other or protect or guard during crucial junctures. The team stationed in one place would usually cover the team on the move by ensuring the vicinity is clear and attacking if there is a threat.   And don't forget the practical usage.   Insurance coverage! "Stuck in a rut" means a habit or pattern of behavior that has become dull and unproductive and is hard to change. We get stuck in a rut when are doing something in a monotonous way and we do not feel good about it.  My boring office life is stuck in a rut. I must take some drastic measures to rekindle that spark!

When it comes to Apple, the product and the platform are inextricably intertwined — making them, essentially, one and the same. "Inextricable" is impossible to separate. Needle and Thread are inextricable.   "Intertwined" is coiled, interwoven or interlaced together. The threads are intertwined in a shoe lace.   Sadly my office and personal life have become inextricably intertwined. I will have to take some strong measures to set things right.  

'that is so rude,' snarled squeaky Malloy. 'we deserve to get treated properly.' I was reading the book "Kid Wonder and the Half-Hearted Hero" with my son and came across this sentence. 'Snarl' expresses being irate and disappointed. In the above case squeaky Malloy was angry and used a bad tempered voice to air his disappointment - he snarled. A dog is snarling when it is growling with bared teeth. Probably the word is best suited to project animal or animal-like behavior.

The single vowel is the only difference in these three similar words. I have used these and yet get confused with the usage, especially the last two. This post should clear this for good. Adapt is to get comfortable with changing times or situations.   We continue to adapt to the fast technology changes all around us. Being from the country side, I have to gradually adapt to the city life. Adopt is to own or bring something into use.   We adopt a child.   We adopted a security policy that was effectively rolled out in the organization. I had one situation where a new technology was being rolled out in my organization. Would this be adoption or adaptation (or adaption)?
